My cat had her nose resected last September after three years of cryotherapy (freezing) of the lesion on her nose. I had her to the vet today because the cancer has returned in an area which was resected. Basically my choices are to have more of her nose resected but this does not give me any guarantees of cure or to manage her comfortably and probably have another year with her before she has to be put to sleep. She is not in pain but the ulcer which is very small at the moment will eventually cause her discomfort. She is 10 years old. In retrospect I wish I had been advised to have the resection done when the cancer was first discovered as it was very small then and probably would not have become invasive. Always seek a second opinion. I didn't until it was too late.

My poor cat Eddy was attacked the other day- by a dog or a large possum we think. Unfortunately the vet had to remove most of his nose. I was extremely upset because he was such a good looking cat and such a loving animal. We still love and adore him more than anything, but it hurts me to see how different he looks. He's also not as cuddly. I think he might be a bit upset still over being attacked.

Emma. I don't think anyone here would rather have a deceased cat than one with their nose removed. Mia's op was a little traumatic for us, being used to her looks for 17 years, but she was loved just as well. As you can see above, our kids thought nothing of the operation.

I watched a nose being removed today at the vet, it was a very interesting opperation, the vet did a great job to try and get the cat looking acceptable and the cancer removed, I am dissapointed to here ppl are so concerened what their cat looks like as opposed to it being ALIVE.

Two years ago my vet said my cat had a fight, and went on for about 5 months. I thought it was nose cancer by the vet said no. Then 5 months ago the vet said yes - cancer. They could not operate on him because he was to old (15yrs) so he was taking drugs and chemo. In the last few month it has got worse so we went to another vet. And that was the most said day - we had to put him down as he was in to much pain. I just wish that vet look more into it 2 years ago.

My cat has squamous cell carcinoma on her nose and paws and is constantly licking those areas. She also has liver disease. What I need to know, is the cancer causing her pain on the skin? Does anyone know?

My cat, Poogie, was also diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of his nose. They say it was induced by being out in the sun (we found him abandoned in our rural neighborhood, he was already about 10 they say) and his nose was ulcerated at that time but the vets did not mention cancer but thought it was some kind of viral thing. Then, after it never healed, we got a biopsy. We took him to the University of Florida vet school and they removed his nose. The path report says they got it all, but they recommend having chest xray later on to be sure (squamous cell ca will metastisize there). He really did well after his surgery except his breathing did sound like "wheezing from his nose" from the swelling and mucous. Darth Vadar. It scabbed over a bit and I was worried about him getting air, but then the scab dropped of and now he has just two openings. Kinda like Michael Jackson does. He is doing great. He is just as handsome as he ever was. His profile is now flat, though. I will take a picture and upload it soon.

Lori,

Wish you best of luck that he has a wonderful recovery. I just took my cat to the vet today, and unfortunately the cancer has become active again. The doc recommended the surgery to cut the nose and he's staying over. He'll be back home in 2 days. I cant wait to cuddle him again!

Rexii,
The vet just cut off the section of his nose that was covered with cancer, and now his nose has healed it looks really good. The only thing is they say it will probably come back in about 6 months. I hate to hear that about your cat, is doing better?
Thanks again for your help.

Thats great news Lori.

My cat had squamous cell carcinoma too. Did you get the freeze treatment or did the vet had to cut parts of the nose off? My cat had this sore patch after the treatment and over the past week it has gotten worse. I think the cancer over tat area was too deep for it to be treated in one session.

Rexii,
Thanks for the info. I took my cat to the vet just in time. The vet was able to save most of my cats nose. He operated on my cats nose and now he has stitches. I have to go back in a week or two to make sure the operation was a success. My cat had the cancer called Squamous Cell Carcinoma.
Thanks again!
