I can now report, through extensive experience, that the Neverlost lady says, "Please proceed to the highlighted route." Originally I thought the Neverlost lady was getting more and more tense each time she said it, but careful, repeated experiments indicate not.

TomTom service sucks.
Just rang them for a GO300 battery to fit myself and they refuse to supply this part. Has to go to them to be forwarded to their repair agent.
( they dont even have their own techs ! ) The agent will charge the labor fee around 100 bucks plus battery around 45 bucks plus return freight of around 15 bucks.
Is that legal that they refuse to supply original spare parts ?

Well I guess it is of to EBAY for an aftermarket battery of higher capacity..

And the map update arrived yesterday. I'll hold off on installing it until I can locate my TomTom cable again -- it's just a USB cable, right?

"Step 2: Delete all files on the device"

Scary!

More info. The PDF form has arrived.

"Receive a free TomTom Map Update with each TomTom GO300, GO500, ONE or RIDER unit purchased between May 1 and July 31 2006"

"*Map update only refers to update from v12 Sensis maps [BS: 2005] to v13 [BS: presumably 2006] Sensis maps via download only."

Good news for people purshasing a TomTom now, but I purchased mine at the end of April :(

I called TomTom today ((02) 8875 1700) and they're sending me a form to apply for a discount map update when it's available (soon). They say Sensis releases new map data yearly, and this year's will cost $189 for TomTom owners, or $189 - $50 cash back (The guy is emailing me exact details) for people who who participate in a current upgrade promotion. I guess the $50 cash back is to soften the blow for people like me who purchased the unit in the last month before the new map data comes out...

Alan,

Sadly no M7 yet. The map data is Copyright 2005 Sensis, so I'd guess the data is from before the M7 could be surveyed. The good people here have led me to believe there may be a free map update available for Australia -- I'll check this week. There is a kind of a support subscription available from TomTom with registration, but I think you're only entitled to updates as long as TomTom don't bump the version by a whole integer. There's mention of discounted rates for future maps for registered TomTom owners, but who knows?

Something I left out of the review is that the TomTom site, and the contact I've had with TomTom so far (registering for email newsletters etc.) has been pretty silent and unfulfilling. It's a swish site, but nothing has changed it in the last month what helps to satisfy me that they're alive and kicking and working up new gadgetry for the TomTom.

Admitedly, it's only been a month.
