So it turns out (thanks Chris) that the one user interface control on the Shuffle is useful for doing exactly this in a round-a-bout way, so long as you don't load your shuffle randomly, and instead load it with a couple of albums you can take the shuffle off shuffle mode and it will proceed through the album in sequence. Of course, Shuffles don't hold enough music to make this generally useful, and this feature would have to be implemented differently on larger iPods...

e.g. Superficially described, it would have to "push" out of wherever it is playing (in a playlist or in the random-everything mode) into the album in the album menu, rather than simply ceasing to shuffle.

Good suggestions if they can be made "thoughtless" enough. I'll have a play around with iTunes and see if I can force it to comply with my will... hmm, how about jumping back to shuffleness?

Excellent suggestion and name.

I don't believe this can be done with the iPod interface.

With iTunes you can do something similar by clicking on the grey arrow which takes you to that artist/album in your library, and from there you can play the rest of the album.

Oh, and to get this to work so that the grey arrows don't take you to the iTMS you need to use a "defaults" command. Or some registry key on windows, I expect. Sorry, don't have the exact details at hand.

I wonder... if I switch my shuffle from 'random' to 'in order' during the track I'm listening to...

I must do the experiment :)
